By June 24, 2020 August 25th, 2020 No Comments

A heartfelt thank you to all who supported the gym during the shutdown. We couldn’t have gotten back up on our feet without your support and it means the world to us. Now let’s work on the next chapter with caution to ensure a healthy environment and progress.

Before your first class, please read over the procedures here and familiarize yourself with them.

Chapter 1&2 Overview: July & August (coinciding with Phase III of VA plan)

  • Read and sign our updated waiver.
  • Assigned training groups organized by staff and limited to 15 participants per class
  • Designated training partner assigned by staff
    • This will be your training partner throughout Chapters 1-3
  • Beginning 8/18, we will combine pairs into optional groups of 4
  • Student check in process to include temperature taken upon arrival
  • Classes shortened to 45 minutes to allow for sanitization protocol
  • Gym closed between classes for sanitization protocol
  • No visitors, spectators, or parents
  • No loaner equipment
  • Drinking fountain disabled
  • All students must wear a mask inside the lobby and changing area. Masks may be removed when you reach your designated spot on the mat.
  • Changing area & showers off limits for students
    • Changing in bathroom only
  • Online content available here!

What that means for you:

Please arrive around 15 minutes prior to your assigned class time, wearing a mask, so that we can check you in. Your temperature will be taken with a no-touch thermometer, and a staff member will ask you a few screening questions. Bring your gi/training clothes with you in a bag. The changing area will be temporarily off limits, and students will change in the bathrooms (with footwear). After you’ve changed, place your bag in a spot on the shelves, and proceed to the mat area. Remove your footwear and then use hand sanitizer immediately before entering the mat. Then, head to one of the marked training areas on the mat to meet up with your designated partner. You may then remove your mask.

Classes will be 45 minutes during Chapter 1. After training, exit the mat in an orderly fashion to avoid unnecessary contact, gather your things, and say goodbye. Although we love talking and spending time with students before and after class, we are asking that students leaving the building directly after their class time so that we’re able to disinfect the gym before the next group of students can enter.

What will our staff do to keep you safe?

We will keep track of all members in the gym so we can isolate any cases that may arise.
We will be doing a thorough cleaning of the training and common areas between classes to minimize any cross contamination between groups. As such, training times will be shortened.
We will conduct a check in process for everyone entering the gym.

    • Temperature will be taken with a no-contact thermometer.
    • Questions will be asked related to your health for the past 14 days.
    • Questions will be asked about who you have been in contact with for the past 14 days.

We will allow for limited access to the facility.  Changing/shower area will be off limits.
We will be using open doors and windows with the large ventilation fan as long as weather conditions allow. We will be replacing the air conditioning filters monthly when the weather becomes too hot during the summer months.
We will not accept cash payments.  Members can either update their payment methods via an online link or read us their credit card information as we enter it into our system.
We will continue to keep you updated with any and all announcements from the State of Virginia and the CDC as they pertain to safely training in our school.

What do we expect of our members to keep our community safe?
The CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) recommends we all take sensible steps to protect ourselves and others. You acknowledge that you are responsible for safeguarding yourself, your instructors, other students, and their families.
Please keep in mind that participation in class means you are accepting the risk of proximity to other students and instructors in the school. We will have an updated waiver for you to read and sign prior to returning.

Please understand and respect our reopening protocols.  We all affect one another.  These steps are to ensure the safety of our community and are necessary for our business to remain in compliance with the law as well as everyone understanding their own responsibilities.

  • Read and sign our updated waiver.
  • Stay home when sick or symptomatic (with fever, cough and/or shortness of breath). Staff will take your temperature before entering the school.  Do not come to the school if you have been or suspect you have been exposed to a communicable illness.
  • Avoid touching eyes, nose, or mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Bring a designated bag to carry your workout clothes in and take them home.
  • Wear a mask in the school until you are at your space on the mat, and again when exiting.
  • Leave unnecessary things in your vehicle.
  • Bring your own water bottle, already filled. The drinking fountain will be disabled.
    • Put your whole name on your bottle.
  • Students will have their own training gear; no sharing training equipment.
  • As standard, all your Gis and training gear should be kept clean and in good repair.
  • Shower at your home prior to class.
  • Changing will be done in the bathrooms while wearing footwear.
  • Please arrive at the school 15 minutes before class start time to get your temp checked, go through the check in process, and change into your training gear.  You should not arrive in your training gear.
  • Plan to use the restroom prior to arriving at the school.
  • Hand-washing will be required when entering the school and before joining the training session.
  • The Medical Station will be for staff use only (ask for assistance).
  • Parents will wait for their kids outside.
  • We will be bowing out and clapping instead of the handshake line.
  • All lost and found items will be discarded. Please take your things with you.

Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions about the steps listed here! By working together to take precautions now, we are ensuring the safety of our community and the longevity of our training.

We can’t wait to have you all back on the mats.
